In the event of a leak, what should you do?

It's certainly a good idea to be prepared and know what to do in case of a leak within your home, as this could save your home from major water damage. Here is our advice below:
- Try to contain the leak if possible using a bucket or suitable container.
- Locate and turn off your internal stop tap.
- If the leak is on the main supply (before internal stop tap) locate and turn off your external stop tap. (This is usually found at the boundary of your property or at the end of your driveway)
- If the leak is coming from your heating pipework, you may wish to turn off your boiler if the leak is fast and not containable, this will help slow the leak.
- If the leak is coming from your boiler, it is advisable to turn off your boiler to prevent further damage to the electrical components within the boiler.
- If the leak is from your hot or cold water supply, after turning off the stop tap, open your taps to remove any remaining water in the pipes.
- If the leak is coming from a waste pipe (i.e Sink, bath or appliance) isolate or stop using water or the appliance that will use that waste pipe to stop the leak until this can be fixed.
